Building on the world-wide success of the groundbreaking K-2, the GTE is the culmination of Trekinetic’s Android project. An extensive two year R & D programme focused on moving the game on for wheelchair users, this time focusing on those unable to constantly self propel. 

Following Trekinetic’s ethos of elegance through enhanced functionality and practicality, the unique front wheel drive GTE offers something truly new. 

Namely, a capable, comfortable on and off-road wheelchair, that can be disassembled in less than a minute, then placed in any car, not just a converted one. This should mean that GTE customers will have more freedom to be with their family and friends. Trekinetic believe this will offer a lifestyle currently unavailable.

This is how we achieved it.

Most conventional power chairs have the heavy motor and batteries under the seat. That means it can’t easily be dismantled. Even if it were possible, the centre portion would be too heavy as you would have to lift the batteries and the motors.

Trekinetic’s approach has been to split the single heavy motor into two smaller, but no less powerful ones. These are known as hub motors and similar technology can be found on the latest electric bicycles. Then we positioned each of these (naturally lighter) motors inside each of the big front wheels. We then ensured these wheels were quick release. The positioning of the motors offers traction exactly where it’s needed, but crucially means the front wheels can be removed almost as quickly as those on a conventional wheelchair. Additionally the Carbon Fibre Monococque centre section (which houses the unusually compact battery) can be transformed for compact transporation, as per the established Trekinetic K-2 (manual version) which of course continues to be available.

The battery technology is also new generation as regards to size and performance, with Metal Hydride and Lithium-Ion, both available.
